SOMEONE I KNOW

Someone I know is treating you bad
Someone who ought to know better than that
I thought I knew him well
But you can never tell
We don't get on so well
After all

Someone I know is making you cry
Someone who should have been eager to try
But he grew worldly wise
Then he learned how to lie
We don't see eye-to-eye
Any more

Someone I know is setting you free
Someone who should have been happy to be
With someone like you
But he couldn't be true
Someone I thought I knew
Someone called --- me

Someone I Know 7

The gorgeous Someone I Know, with its lovely string arrangement by Jimmy Haskell and its clever lyrical twist at the end, was released as a 7" single (with If I Had Known as the B-side), on Mercury in January 1978, in good time for Valentine's Day. It came in a colourful gatefold sleeve with artwork resembling a Valentine's card, appropriately bearing the catalogue number, LUV 1!

The single was recorded in the USA and is taken from the album, New England Days, which unfortunately due to various technical/copyright issues has never been released on CD so no official digital copies exist but vinyl copies of both the single and the LP can still be tracked down.

A lovely, intimate demo version with Cliff singing (and whistling) alone at the piano appears on the album, Work In Progress
